The Sacrament of Baptism
It is great news that you want your child to join our church family through baptism. You have decided to give your child the chance of growing up as a follower of Jesus Christ. We want to help you to carry out your decision by giving you our wholehearted support.
In having your child baptised, you are accepting the responsibility of bringing him or her up in the practice of the faith. "Do you clearly understand what you are undertaking?" You will be asked this direct question at the beginning of the baptism ceremony. It is a reminder that baptism is not to be undertaken lightly: it is not a naming ceremony or something merely "done" at the beginning of a life. You are committing your child to a whole way of life. The Catholic faith is a whole system and way of life. You should want your child to know, love and serve God - to have a positive and fruitful relationship with our heavenly Father.
We ask our parents to attend one of our Baptism preparation evenings before a Baptism can take place. These meetings take place every two months in the narthex of our sister parish of Christ the King. They start at 7.30 pm and last approximately 2 hours.
